logoTo many, it is a group of professionals collectively addressing safety issues of their day-to-day jobs. Safety councils hold regular meetings to examine and resolve potential and existing safety concerns. They inform participants about new techniques, products and services. The Richland County Safety Council is a diverse organization made up of many facets of the community- the public, the private sector and individuals with special interests. All of these groups represent many levels of work force hierarchy, wanting to grasp that bit of information that can be used to make their jobs fulfilling and beneficial to those they serve.

What is the most popular reason an employer joins/remains a member of the Richland County Safety Council?

Programs, programs, programs. Employers who hear about them, see results and eventually realize their safety council is providing quality programs, will invest in providing the time and support for participation by their employees. For many years, we have watched the growth of organizations and the benefits that develop when a group of individuals gets together with a definite focus; they are hard to stop. Safety programs are the hidden part of a business' success equation, and we simply have to make sure it is always included in the calculation.

Awards

Each April, the Division of Safety & Hygiene presents annual certifications of awards to qualifying Richland County companies in the following categories:

  • Group Award - Presented to the company with the lowest incident rate in each group;
  • 100% Award - Given to each company that works the entire year without a lost-time injury or illness;
  • Achievement Award - Presented to each company that decreases its incident rate by at least 25% from the previous year;
  • Special Award - Given to each company that accumulates at least 500,000 hours and works at least six months without a lost-time injury.
